Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell is a Washington D.C.-based American TV journalist, anchor, and commentator. Mitchell graduated from the University of Pennsylvania with a diploma of English Literature. In 1967 Mitchell was hired as a reporter at KYW Radio and TV in Philadelphia. She joined the CBS affiliate WDVM-TV (then WTOP) in Washington DC in 1976. A few years later, she was a general correspondent at NBC News in Washington. Beginning in 1981, she began covering the White House and became chief of the congressional reporter in 1988. She was promoted to the chief White House reporter in 1992, and chief International Affairs correspondent at NBC News. Mitchell has appeared at times on TV news show Meet the Press as a panelist and host. She was on the panel during the 1988 presidential debates involving George Bush and Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is the wife of Alan Greenspan former chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell was awarded the Goldsmith Career Award in 2005 by the John F. Kennedy School of Government for her outstanding performance in journalism. In 2004 in 2004, the Radio-Television News Directors Association gave Mitchell the Leonard Zeidenberg Award in recognition for her work in protecting First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell began reporting on the White House in 1981-1988 for NBC News during Ronald Reagan's second term as president. Mitchell covered a variety of notable news stories that included arms control fiscal tax reforms, and the Iran Contra scandal. Mitchell also went on numerous summits in the company of the president Reagan and Mikhail Gorbachev.
